Dmitry Sinkovsky: The Singing Violin

Concert Hall Qpac

Virtuoso violinist and master of the Baroque, Dmitry Sinkovsky, joins the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra for The Singing Violin, at the Concert Hall, QPAC, on 8 August.

Reviews of Sinkovsky’s performance are full of superlatives, including from The Australian on his 2014 tour, with the comment, “an extraordinary artist… a virtuosic tour-de-force”, while The Sydney Morning Herald said that he had “a slightly overwhelming array of talents”. He returns in 2017 as Guest Director and soloist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.

Expect to be very much impressed and moved by works from Italian, German and French Baroque composers Vivaldi, Locatelli, Telemann, Leclair and Aubert. Sinkovsky will perform on a Francesco Ruggeri violin made in Cremona in 1675, made available to him by the Netherlands-based Jumpstart Jr Foundation. It identifies leading young and gifted musicians and provides them with gut-string period instruments crafted by the old masters. The sound, no doubt, will be exquisite.

It goes without saying that the concert will be one to remember, not only for Sinkovsky’s talent and on-stage charisma, but for a whole lot of energy – so much so that after one particularly intense performance in 2014, the orchestra’s Artistic Director Paul Dyer and the star violinist had to wind down with a mid-winter swim at 9.30pm on a Friday at Sydney’s outdoor Prince Alfred Park Pool!
