Composing For Hollywood
Concert Hall Qpac
In Composing for Hollywood, Brisbane audiences will have the chance to hear what it’s like to be in the film composer’s position as part of the QSO's Journey Through the Cosmos series of concerts and presentations.
Oscar-winning composer, Dario Marianelli will be in conversation with acclaimed UK musicologist, biographer, lecturer and radio presenter, Stephen Johnson in Composing for Hollywood, on Sunday, 9 November, at 2.30pm.
Italian composer, Marianelli, won his coveted Academy Award in 2008 for his score for Atonement, and has also been nominated in the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards for Anna Karenina and Pride and Prejudice. He also has a long list of other credits for films as diverse as Eat, Pray, Love and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, so will be a wealth of knowledge on the topic of composing for Hollywood.
Johnson will also be discussing with Marianelli his Voyager Concerto for Violin and Orchestra and how the newly commissioned concerto was structured to represent the journey of the Voyager spacecraft hurtling through the cosmos on a mission of discovery.
The concerto, a QSO commission, is having its world premiere as part of the Journey Through the Cosmos series, and is being performed in four concerts over three nights (after two concerts had to be added due to public demand). Professor Brian Cox OBE, the particle physicist and TV star, is a major drawcard for the concerts.
