Brisbane International Garden Show
Pine Rivers Park
The inaugural Brisbane International Garden Show, Queensland’s answer to the Sydney Royal Flower and Garden Show and Melbourne’s International Flower and Garden Show, makes its much-anticipated debut in October.
Taking place over whole four days at Pine Rivers Park, this mega must-visit event for garden enthusiasts of all ages is set to incorporate more than 100 presentations across five stages, showcase the wares of over 200 nurseries and exhibitors, display countless plant varieties and attract some 30000 attendees.
Leading the fray will be nationally and internationally renowned horticultural and landscaping experts including Better Homes and Gardens presenter Graham Ross, landscape designer Jim Fogarty*, Gardening Australia presenter Jerry Coleby-Williams and ABC Gardening Australia magazine Editor Phil Dudman. Also appearing will be The Block’s Dale Vine, along with Brisbane-based horticultural experts Noel Burdette and Claire Bickle, who will be presenting regularly throughout the 4 day event.
Catering for people of all ages and abilities, The Brisbane International Garden Show has something for everyone, from dedicated green thumbs to gardening novices, seekers of landscape inspiration or even those just looking for a fun family day out.
Along with the comprehensive program of demonstrations and lectures, there will be landscape garden displays, some 200 exhibitors of the latest plant ranges and gardening supplies, a free plant clinic and a free children’s playground with amusement rides.
Another drawcard for the eco-minded is the Organic Kitchen Garden feature area, with a fully sustainable planted garden, demonstrations and lectures and organic gardening and permaculture experts to answer questions and give advice.
Amongst the many topics covered by the experts will be kickstarting a sustainable garden, growing a veggie patch, keeping chickens, gardening in small spaces, growing tropical and citrus fruits, creating a cottage-style garden with native plants, finding the best shade trees for small backyards and making an aromatherapy garden.
There’s even advice (from Dominique Liv Kamal) on how to detox using plants and herbs or treating inflammation with turmeric and herbs.
Nice to know – *Jim Fogarty is a multi-award-winner of international acclaim whose designs have won prizes at the Chelsea Flower Show and ‘Best in Show’ from the Gardening World Cup 2011 in Japan.
