Black - A Triple Bill
Cremorne Theatre
An exciting new Chinese-Australian dance collaboration - Black - A Triple Bill, comes to the stage at QPAC’s Cremorne Theatre in February.
Queenslanders don’t need to be introduced to Expressions Dance Company (EDC), who always deliver with their powerful and captivating performances, and in Black they’re joined by China’s Guangdong Modern Dance Company (GMDC) after travelling to that country last year, developing the work and showcasing it to audiences there.
Says EDC’s Artistic Director, Natalie Weir, “We are very excited to be presenting this showcase which will include an Australian premiere of Black – a piece the companies created together under the direction of acclaimed Hong Kong choreographer Xing Liang, as well as a piece each from GMDC and EDC.”
In the title work, Black, the dancers use materials and textures from their lives to “collage the dreamlike, fleeting and ineffable charm of black.” GMDC’s performance, Sumeru, created by their resident choreographer, Liu Qi, pays homage to the connection between the elements of the earth and the elements of dance.
Rounding out the trio of works, EDC will perform a piece titled Don’t, by Natalie Weir, which explores the emotional power of words, both inspirational and negative.
