Beyond (circa)

Beyond is Circa’s latest mind-blowing show, blending contemporary circus acts such as trapeze and Chinese pole with Alice in Wonderland inspired elements at this Brisbane Powerhouse premiere.

Direct from a record-breaking season in Berlin, Circa features seven artists on various stages in small red-curtained settings that spil over to the cabaret tables, with experiences that question the fine line between human and animal.

Behind the scenes an audio backdrop that mixes ballads, show tunes and electronica sets the pace as the audience gets familiar with the artists and their collective armoury of skills.

Director Yaron Lifschitz goes some way to explaining the accolades it received in Berlin by describing it as a show about celebration, exploring the relationship to the animal inside humans and influenced by Wes Anderson’s 2012 coming-of-age film Moonrise Kingdom.

Lifschitz’s career has seen his work showed in over 25 countries, across five continents and viewed by over a half a million people and Beyond, his latest venture, commences its six month Australia-wide tour here at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
