The Art Of Dr Seuss
Mitchell Fine Art
You only have to say ‘Dr Seuss’ and several iconic pictures come to mind, so fans of the prolific children’s writer/illustrator should get along to The Art of Dr Seuss, on exhibit at Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley.
The real Dr Seuss was actually editorial cartoonist, Theodor Seuss Geisel, who has delighted both children and parents alike through his 44 children’s books such as Cat in the Hat, Sam I Am and Horton Hears a Who. Yet not everyone knows that he was also a visual artist who painted and sculpted for his own enjoyment.
This special Art of Dr Seuss exhibition is drawn from 70 years of Seuss’s art history – the result of several years’ work by Geisel’s wife, whom he entrusted to show what he termed his ‘secret art’ after he died.
On show are 49 artworks including limited editions of Illustration works, Anniversary prints, two Unorthodox Taxidermy’s, a Bronze Sculpture and 9 works from Secret Art Series and Archive Collection. Meanwhile a highlight of this year’s exhibition is two new releases from the Estate – ‘Talk, Talk, Talk’ and ‘There’s So So Much to Read’.
The public will be able to not just view but also buy the works from the collection (Note that some are already sold out and no longer available to purchase).
Nice to know - A selection of Dr Seuss works is also on display at the Sofitel Brisbane Central at Turbot St and available for purchase via Mitchell Fine Art.
You can also preview the works on show here.
