Anywhere Theatre Festival 2015

Brisbane

Anwyhere Theatre Festival is once again bringing a fantastic affordable line up of theatrical, cabaret, music and performances to just about anywhere in Brisbane except a theatre near you.

For if you go out in Brisbane over the next two weeks (or even stay at home for that matter) you’re sure of a big surprise as theatre as-you-don’t-know –it takes over the city in places least expected – heritage buildings, parks, suburban houses, flower shops, swimming pools, art galleries, an historic gaol, a strip club and somebody’s porch. And then there’s the mystery location that is only revealed upon booking.

The concept behind Anywhere Theatre Festival is that the art of performing should not be constrained by, well, a theatre, out-of-reach prices, a time frame of two plus hours with interval, or even a genre.

So, whether it’s comedy at the art gallery, fantasy on a bridge, Jesus’s birthday in a pub or cabaret in your lounge room, here are but a few of the cavalcade of offbeat acts at budget prices to sample at this year’s festival:

Learning to Love Gravity – Too scared to come down and face her fears, The Orphan spends her life hanging from the ceiling till an unlikely encounter with a stranger changes all of that in this whimsical mix of circus and theatre. Brisbane Powerhouse May 8-10, 22-24 $19

Boggo Road Goal's front gate

Private House: Between the Lines (MA) – Take a guided musical journey within the walls of a private house, enjoying a glass of wine, a feast of music and some great adult company along the way. May 8-10 Coorparoo $25

The Touch Industry – Set inside an operational strip club and inspired by the tales of dancers and patrons, this work explores the relationship between the strippers and their customers. May 5&7, 12&14, 19&21 The Candy Club Fortitude Valley $20

A Touch of Industry

Turning Tricks 2 Mystics, Maniacs and Murderers – A magician and a mentalist combine to use all the tricks of the trade to solve the greatest unsolved murder mystery of all time – who was Jack the Ripper? Seventeen Mile Rocks May 8-10, 15-17 $20
