American Ballet Theatre
Lyric Theatre Qpac
In a coup for Brisbane audiences, USA national living treasure the American Ballet Theatre is touring Australia for the first time, bringing Swan Lake and stunning triple bill Three Masterpieces to the QPAC stage.
The must see shows are the third in the series of the world class QPAC International Series and come hot on the pointes of the recent sell-out Bolshoi Ballet season.
The American Ballet Theatre was established in 1939 and has evolved over the years into the hot innovative New York based company that it is today under the artistic direction of world greats like Oliver Smith, Lucia Chase and Mikhail Baryshnikov.
Despite its relatively young age compared to the leading European companies the ABT has brazenly forged a strong identity on the world stage. Current artistic director (since 1992) Kevin MacKenzie has been instrumental in establishing a uniquely American reputation with a vast company repertoire built on ballet’s age old traditions.
Just as the USA is a melting pot of global cultures, dancers at the American Ballet hail from a myriad of countries including Cuba, Russia South America and even Australia and together contribute to the renowned style of the company.
