7 Deadly Sins
Qpac Playhouse
Those naughty but sometimes nice seven deadly sins – wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy and gluttony – are given the stunning Expressions Dance Company treatment in the world premiere of 7 Deadly Sins at the QPAC Playhouse from 21 to 29 August.
Natalie Weir, choreographer and award-winning Artistic Director, has brought her acclaimed insights to the work about the less savoury side of humanity in what is “a wicked tale of mortal sin through electrifying contemporary dance”.
Weir, known around the world for her physical partner work, organic movement style and creative masterpieces says, “7 Deadly Sins brings an ancient concept into modern times, with a fresh interpretation of this age-old tale… Our incredible EDC dancers will breathe new life into this well-known concept, with decadent costumes and set design by Bill Haycock.”
She’s also excited to be working with composer, Darrin Verhagen, whose evocative sounds will be an intrinsic part of the breathtaking work that explores the inherent frailty and imperfections that exist with everyone.
It’s fitting that Expressions Dance Company are debuting 7 Deadly Sins during QPAC’s 30th anniversary year, as the centre celebrates its long-term partnerships and collaborations that have given audiences in Brisbane such memorable moments since it opened. This will be yet another EDC show not to be missed.
Good to know: The show features strobe lighting, sound pressure, smoke and fog effects.
