2019 Season QUT Gardens Theatre
QUT Gardens Theatre’s 2019 Season promises to be an exciting one, showcasing a wide variety of themes and genres - including a much-loved musical, murder mystery and dramatic comedies - with something for everyone.
This new Australian production of Jim Cartwright’s timeless comedy-drama, Two, stars real-life married couple Kate Raison (A Country Practice) and Brian Meegan (Sea Patrol, Water Rats) who prove marriage isn’t easy and you never know what goes on behind closed doors.
One of Australia’s best loved stories, The Sapphires, returns to stage at QUT Gardens Theatre. This musical-comedy-drama about four talented, young Aboriginal Australian girls on the cusp of greatness features QUT acting alumnus Matilda Brown.
Comedian Michael Veitch (The D Generation) brings back the golden era of 1940s in Mystery in the Air, a time when radio was king and political correctness was unheard of. In this radio drama, a fading star facing retirement is challenged by handsome young upstart, Simon Oats.
L'amante Anglaise, a psychological thriller about a brutal murder in small-town France, starring Green Room award-winner Jillian Murray and Rob Meldrum, will have you on the edge of your seat.
Mandi Lodge stars in My Brilliant Divorce, an endearingly funny play about divorce; made famous by Dawn French on the West End stage. Dumped by her husband for a younger woman, she must deal with an empty nest, a disapproving mother and the possibility of poverty.
New Australian dramatic comedy, Spencer, by award-winning writer Katy Warner, stars Jane Clifton as the matriarch of a gloriously dysfunctional but tight-knit family. When golden boy, Scott, learns about the son he never knew he had, the family is thrown into chaos.
Based on the critically-acclaimed children’s novel by Australian author, Jackie French, Hitler’s Daughter’s is an award-winning play for older children presented by Monkey Baa.
Rounding out this rich and varied program is a one-night-only performance by Queensland’s own Tenori (David Kidd, Craig Atkinson and Andrew Pryor) who bring their sense of fun and sophistication to classics; from opera and musical theatre to jazz and more.
In addition, QUT Gardens Theatre proudly supports new talent with another season of QUT Showcase productions starring QUT’s acting and dance students.
