Up a narrow staircase beside Bent Books’s cottage lies the Curious Retro Emporium, a fascinating attic shop packed with retro wear and treasures.
Were these the days of Enid Blyton stories a gang of children would have stumbled across it and spent a whole book having adventures in its quirky lamp lit rooms. And Enid herself would have delighted at the top-of-the-stairs finds: an eclectic collection of costumery, finery, every day wear, accessories and homewares from past and present.
Owner and avid collector Lucia has gone to town with the hand-picked garments and trinkets that adorn this bohemian space, proving her own words that there’s no such thing as too much fandango.
Leather skirts, cowboy boots, drop waist taffeta gowns, lacy camisoles, gypsy skirts and shawls, sombreros, fringed mini dresses, brunch coats, sequins, baubles and beads and an array of men’s cruise shirts, golf shorts, loafers and studded belts are but the tip of her collection. And there’s even a small cache of vintage children’s wear- dresses with puffed sleeves, pinafores and sailor tops from more innocent Enid times.
