Playground under Story BridgeNestled at the base of the Story Bridge’s imposing south pylon is this park with one of the city’s most striking outlooks, that was once shared by newly arrived migrants who were processed at the grand Italianate Yungaba Immigration Depot nearby.

Incorporating a maritime themed playground complete with hirdy girdy, a gritty beach at low tide and a grassy expanse dotted with picnic tables, barbecues, shelters and amenities it is well worth the effort to get here.

The park is directly connected to the riverfront walk and bike path to South Bank, which weaves its way through a varied and scenic line-up of natural and manmade features. The historic Story Bridge Hotel too is a stone’s throw away.

Directly across the river on the other side of the Story Bridge lie the heritage listed Howard Smith wharves, a couple of the only surviving relics of the river’s busy shipping and maritime days as a working port.
