Where The Wild Things Play
Slq
It's time to get your claws out, because the theme for these summer holidays at The State Library of Queensland is Where The Wild Things Play. Children of all ages are encouraged to stomp, crawl and creep their way through imaginary swamps and caves to explore their inner monster.
Just like Max in Maurice Sendak's famous story, young visitors to SLQ are welcome to escape into a land of make believe as they dress up in horns, scales, fur or tails in a Wild Wardrobe Workshop, or maybe the Queensland Monster Manu-Factory Workshop (ages 4 - 12) with its splatter wall sounds more appealing?
From January 5 - 25, there will be a Monster Family Film Fest (11am daily) and The Knowledge Walk will be transformed into a giant Monster's Den, where Terrifying Tales (are ferociously fun) will be told at 11.30am daily. The Corner also provides the ideal hideaway for under 8's to perfect their monstrous roar and create their own mini monster masterpieces.
Older children (ages 8 -16), might be interested in joining SLQ's popular Story Lab for hands on, minds on workshops ($30 - $70) which explore all aspects of storytelling from cartooning to robotics and Minecraft. Jan 12-24
Need to Know: The SLQ Wild Things workshops are free to attend, however bookings are necessary to avoid disappointment. (slq.eventbrite.com). The Wild Things arrive early for childrren aged under 8 in The Corner, with activities, entertainment and more throughout the school holidays.
