State Library of Queensland’s quirky and intriguing exhibition, Lifestyle: a sunshine state of mind explores the unique ways Queenslanders have pursued meaningful and rewarding lives since the late 1800s.

So what exactly are the ingredients of a meaningful life in the Sunshine State, in the last 2 centuries and now? A skipping rope, an artist’s paint box, forty winks under a Jacaranda tree, helping your neighbours in a tropical cyclone, or even, a bowl of prunes?

Across the globe, people seek meaning in their everyday lives. Our quest for understanding and connection is constant and varied. This exhibition examines how we live and play, and the quirks of the Queensland sensibility through the themes of wellbeing, home, expression, play, community and hope. 

Showcasing a range of State Library’s rare and restricted collection items, this hands-on exhibition explores the myriad of ideas and identities that are quintessentially Queensland through photographs, home movies, original artworks, objects and more.
