Queen's Baton Relay

The countdown is on for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay.

Don’t miss your chance to experience a once-in-a-generation opportunity to see the relay as it passes through Brisbane on the Easter long weekend, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 March.

The Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) is the longest in history, travelling for 388 days and covering 230,000 kilometres. Starting its journey at Buckingham Palace, the Baton will have passed through all nations and territories of the Commonwealth by the time it reaches the Gold Coast for the Opening Ceremony, including Botswana, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Scotland, Singapore, Tanzania, Swaziland and Wales.

The QBR is a Games tradition, celebrating the Commonwealth’s diversity, inspiring community pride and exciting people about the world-class festival of sports and culture to come.
Here are some of the prime spots for residents and visitors to see the Baton and cheer on the batonbearers as they move through the city. Make sure you join in the community celebrations planned along the way.

Friday 30 March 2018

•    Brighton: Enjoy live local music, free face painting, a jumping castle and a delicious breakfast menu.
Venue: Roosters Junior Rugby League Club, 22 Tenth Ave Brighton
Time: 8am (Approx. Baton arrival time: 9.52am)
•    Shorncliffe: Come down and enjoy the Bluewater Festival and see batonbearer, Giaan Rooney.
Venue: Shorncliffe Pier, Moora Park, 65 Park Parade, Shorncliffe
Time: 8am (Approx. Baton arrival time: 10.54am)
•    Chermside: Enjoy live music, free face painting, games, activities for kids and a range of food trucks on offer.
Venue: 7th Brigade Park, 21 Kittyhawk Drive, Chermside
Time: 11.30am (Approx. Baton arrival time: 1.18pm)
•    Milton: Enjoy live music from The Steele Syndicate, roving entertainers, circus performances and workshops, inflatable squash courts, giant games and a range of food trucks on offer.
Venue: Suncorp Stadium, North Plaza (Caxton Street, Paddington side of Suncorp Stadium)
Time: 12.30pm (Approx. Baton arrival time: 3.22pm)
•    Toowong: Enjoy live music, giant games, a jumping castle, face painting, footy toss, sports demonstrations and festival food.
Venue: West Bulldogs Rugby, Toowong Memorial Park, Sylvan Road, Toowong
Time: 2.30pm (Approx. Baton arrival time: 3.48pm)
•    Sherwood: Enjoy live music by Brass Roots Live, geocaching, tai chi, free face painting and a range of food trucks on offer and welcome batonbearer Susie O’Neill.
Venue: Sherwood Arboretum, 57 Dewar Terrace, Sherwood
Time: 4pm (Approx. Baton arrival time: 5.30pm)

Saturday 31 March 2018

•    Holland Park: Enjoy performances by Super Stars Dance School, live music, sports demonstrations, free face painting and a range of food trucks on offer.
Venue: C.B. Mott Park, 49 Abbotsleigh Street, Holland Park
Time: 11.30am (Approx. Baton arrival time: 1.09pm)
•    Kangaroo Point: Enjoy live music by DJ Wade and the River City Steel Band, free mobile rock climbing wall, bike valet, giant games and a range of food trucks on offer.  
Venue: Captain Burke Park, 117 Holman Street, Kangaroo Point
Time: 12.30pm (Approx. Baton arrival time: 1.59pm)
•    New Farm: Enjoy live music by Hailey Calvert, a range of market stalls and a variety of lawn games including croquet, quoits and bocce.
Venue: Powerhouse Park, 137 Sydney Street, New Farm
Time: 2pm (Approx. Baton arrival time: 3.28pm) 
•    South Bank Parklands: Celebrations will feature a Welcome to Country and indigenous performance by Nunukul, African drums by Rwanda Cultural Group, and music from young local talent Felicity Kircher. You can also meet the GC2018 mascot, Borobi and treat your taste buds to a range of food trucks on offer.
Venue: Cultural Forecourt, South Bank Parklands, Corner Ernest Street, Stanley Street and Grey Street, South Brisbane
Time: 4.30pm (Approx. Baton arrival time: 5.30pm)

Nice to know - The Queen’s Baton, designed by a local Brisbane design firm, is sustainably made out of macadamia wood, reclaimed plastic and stainless steel.
