Greenbank - Veresdale

Heritage Trail

Greenbank to Veresdale is the second in a series of public art and heritage trails celebrating the City of Logan’s rich heritage and creative spirit.

This trail highlights more than 20 sites of interest along the Mt Lindsay Highway, from heritage-listed churches and historic houses to public art installations.

Follow the route on the interactive map provided by Logan City Council or create your own tour. The Council’s self-guided trail starts at the Greenbank RSL car park with Gallipoli’s Mirage, an artwork commemorating 100 years since Anzac troops landed on the beach at Anzac Cove in 1915.

From here, you can discover Park Ridge State School (1895) and Greenbank State School (1893) before heading south on Mt Lindsay Highway. Stop for a picnic at Tully Memorial Park where you’ll find flood markers showing the peak levels of floods in 1887, 1947, 1974, 1991 and 2013. The markers are made from the original timber girders used in the Edward O’Neill Bridge (since replaced with a new bridge), and acknowledges the long history of the Logan River.

Just over the Maclean Bridge, built in 1934, is the Sri Selva Vinayaker Hindu temple, constructed in 1995 in traditional Indian style by builders and sculptors invited from South India.

A short detour brings you to Mundoolun (meaning death adder) where you’ll find the heritage-listed Memorial Church of St John the Evangelist, built in 1901.

At Jimboomba, there are a number of significant historical buildings to visit including Jimboomba House (now a restaurant), Dorrington House and the Little Brown Church, a simple weatherboard structure in English Gothic style erected in 1909.

Back on the highway, you’ll come across Woodhill State School, Woodhill Cemetery and the Woodhill Community Hall, built in 1879 as the Veresdale Courthouse and relocated to Woodhill in 1894.

A little further along, you’ll find the Veresdale Hotel where you can stop off for a refreshment or meal and enjoy the scenic views from the back deck, across what was once a cotton plantation owned by Robert Towns and known as Townsvale. Here you’ll also find remnants of the old Beaudesert rail line and remains of Veresdale Station.
