Anglicare's Arts&minds Gala Exhibition
West Village
In a first for Brisbane, Anglicare's Arts&Minds saw six artists and six artworks go up for auction on digital billboards around town over six weeks, and now art aficionados have a chance to see these stunning masterpieces in real life.
The first showing of the ground-breaking Anglicare's Arts&Minds creations as a collection will be at a Gala Exhibition Opening Event in the Bromley Room in West End’s hip new precinct West Village on Wednesday evening, June 28.
Renowned Australian art-dealer and taste-maker Philip Bacon will be a guest speaker at the gala opening event, as will the curator of the exhibition, artist and fashion designer Yuge Bromley, the partner of David Bromley, after whom the venue is named.
Throughout Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Arts&Minds campaign, which wraps up in mid-June, six artists with firsthand experience of mental health issues each created a thought-provoking piece in just eight hours.
Each was then ‘hung’ – and auctioned – on THE goa GRID over the coming week to raise funds for – and awareness of – Anglicare’s mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
While those six artworks have already been spoken for, gala attendees will be able to see them and bid for other works donated by renowned local artists and galleries, plus additional works by Anglicare's Arts&Minds participants and other talented artists who were shortlisted for the campaign.
According to Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Executive Director, Karen Crouch, millions of Brisbane commuters will have already caught a glimpse of six Anglicare's Arts&Minds creations on goa’s billboards since the campaign launched on May 9.
“Brisbane has been lucky enough to see six incredible pieces produced live throughout the six-week Anglicare's Arts&Minds campaign, thanks to the talent and openness of the chosen artists, the generosity of Queensland’s own outside advertising specialists, goa, and the wonderful people who bid on these historic artworks,” Ms Crouch said.
“Now, we’re extremely excited to introduce these artists formally at the Anglicare's Arts&Minds Exhibition Gala Opening and to celebrate the life-changing, affirmative impact that art can have on those living with mental health challenges.
“Our primary aim with Anglicare's Arts&Minds has been to lift people’s awareness of the capabilities of those with mental health challenges while drawing attention to the fact that we need help to support those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.”
