Noises Off
Playhouse Qpac
One of the funniest and most enduring farces, Noises Off, will have Brisbane audiences chuckling when it comes to QPAC's Playhouse from 3 – 25 June.
Michael Frayn’s work has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “one of the all-time great farces”. Since its 1982 premiere, the play about a play wandering off-script with ensuing chaos including slamming doors, missed cues and dropped trousers, has been delighting audiences who come to back to see it again and again.
Queensland Theatre’s Artistic Director Sam Strong (Once in Royal David’s City), directs Noises Off in a co-production with the Melbourne Theatre Company. Some of the country’s top comedic actors star, including the accomplished Simon Burke, multi-Matilda Award-winning Libby Munro, and the talented Hugh Parker (Tartuffe, Straight White Men, Much Ado About Nothing). Melbourne-based cast members include multiple Green Room nominee, Emily Goddard, and James Saunders (House Husbands, The Doctor Blake Series). Louise Siversen, Ray Chong Nee, Nicki Wendt and Steven Tandy also feature.
The story sees a company of actors in England attempting to put on a play that’s unfortunately way beyond their abilities. The bedroom farce, Nothing On, is a complete failure, and seeing how things unravel on stage is the source of the comedy. Says Strong, “It is a Swiss watch of comic construction – a perfect machine that all you need to do is power with an ensemble of theatre animals and fabulous comedians.”
This one is sure to be a hoot and the perfect antidote to some of the less uplifting events on the daily news, so be sure to book early.
