The Story Of Brisbane
Brisbane Powerhouse
The Story of Brisbane takes visitors on a fascinating insightful journey through the history of the city, captured in the words of its great writers, poets and singers.
From the literary works of Steele Rudd and David Malouf to the poetry of Oodgeroo Noonuccal and the songs of The Go-Betweens, The Story of Brisbane shines a light on how writers, well-knowns and lesser known, past and present, have seen Brisbane.
Award-winning actors Therese Collie and Tim Mullooly lead the walking tour with the Brisbane Powerhouse at the heart of the narrative and the Brisbane River as the backdrop.
Along the way they take on the characters from the writers’ works, bringing the stories to life in a celebration of Brisbane that is packed with anecdotes, wit, humour and a depth of cultural knowledge that you won’t find in any tourist brochures.
This is a rare and unique chance for locals and visitors alike to soak up the atmosphere of the Brisbane Powerhouse whilst gaining an insight into Brisbane life, from the original indigenous inhabitants, convicts and European first settlers, through the Great War, Depression and World War II (in which Brisbane played a pivotal role) to the rock’n’roll 50’s and 6o’s to the protests of the 70’s and up to the present day.
