Paris Combo
Concert Hall Qpac
After sold-out shows in Australia in 2015, the eclectic French music group, Paris Combo, are back to perform their favourite songs at QPAC's Concert Hall on Monday, 20 March.
Viewing clips of the combo on Youtube, you can see why their brand of appealing and infectious music, with the charismatic Belle du Berry on vocals, has garnered them a legion of fans. Their new show will also feature tracks from their new album, Tako Tsubo.
Together for two decades and with six albums to their credit, Paris Combo have a unique mixture of cool cabaret, elegant jazz, gypsy swing, and what they call ‘sassy alterna-pop’. They’ve delighted audiences worldwide with their cosmopolitan sounds, also blending elements from the traditional Chanson and throwing in some Bacharach-style 1960s tunes with psychedelic overtones.
The combo also has Potzi on guitar and François Jeannin on drums, who with du Berry were in the quirky retro revue, Les Champêtres de Joie, and collaborated at the closing ceremony of the Albertville Winter Olympic Games in 1992. Du Berry then met Australian-born trumpeter and pianist, David Lewis, while performing together at the Cabaret Sauvage. They honed their skills playing in cafes and barges along the Seine River following the arrival of Benoit Dunoyer de Segonzac on double bass in 1995.
