A unique sunken space where parents and children aged 8 and under can engage with themed creative activity or imaginative play, watch holiday performances or just hang out, The Corner is also free for users.
And while many people walk by oblivious to this protruding glass box by the Library Café, for parents in the know it’s a sought after site. There are puzzles, dress-ups and props, puppets, art and craft, kids computer activities aimed at creativity, books and even toys and an activity mat for babies.
If it all sounds a bit haphazard it’s not. Equipment is themed and changed every couple of months accordingly: one month it might be Vietnamese Market Place, complete with stalls, baskets, food and hats while another month the theme might be Grandma’s Kitchen or Outer Space.
Although parents and carers must stay with their charges, the Corner is staffed by obliging smiley assistants who keep things tidy, clean and well-preserved.
During school holidays free performances by actors and musicians are scheduled daily and these too complement the play theme de jour.
