Fizz!
Brisbane Powerhouse
Children’s hit opera FiZZ! takes over the Brisbane Powerhouse in the spring school holidays, hot on the heels of its highly successful season of bringing opera to Queensland schools.
With the much-loved avant garde theatre company Shake and Stir behind the production, this runaway hit of the 2014 season will have a whole new audience of kids agog with excitement.
FiZZ! Is based on the classic comic opera Elixir of Love by Gaetano Donizetti and, with its special child-friendly English translation by the OperaQ head of music and the resultant transportation into the 21st century, makes the perfect intro to opera for kids of all ages.
The hilarious story revolves around a local supermarket and encompasses the perfect teenage love triangle: Nemorino, an awkward text book nerd, his obsession and great beauty Adina and the spoilt son of the supermarket tycoon, Benny.
Into the mix comes a shady doctor and con artist, played by Helpmann nominee Andrew Collis and soprano Emily Burke who keeps the gossip chorus going in an hysterical scene in which she plays six characters simultaneously.
With its non-stop twists, rollicking good coming of age story, engaging characters and happy ending, this is a great way for children to be introduced to the 400 year old art form that is opera.
