Marvel: Creating The Cinematic Universe
Goma
Experience the exhilaration of seeing genuine costumes and props from the Marvel franchise, at GOMA's blockbuster exhibition Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe.
There’ll be more than 500 objects in the exclusive exhibition, with costumes of Marvel characters Captain America, Thor and The Ancient One among them. Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Director, Chris Saines says, “This exhibition will be the first major Marvel exhibition in Australia and the largest ever presented in an art museum worldwide.”
Video of Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe at GOMAThe entire ground floor of GOMA will be adorned with 60+ original costumes, props, spectacular set design, concept and keyframe art and clips from the Marvel Studios films. Judging by just how many movies are released each year featuring characters from these fantasy universes, the exhibition is sure to be a winner with fans.
The Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe exhibition is curated by QAGOMA’s Amanda Slack-Smith, with the Producer of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, being thrilled to be working with the gallery for this unique exhibition. This is particularly so since the Sunshine State was the scene for filming of Thor: Ragnarok.
Three main themes are addressed – The Cinematic Assembled, Decoding the Universe, and Behind the Scenes – while highlights include Tony Stark’s race car from Iron Man 2, Thor’s hammer, the Eye of Agamotto from Doctor Strange, and never-before-seen items from the set of the upcoming film, Thor: Ragnarok.
Need to know -There’ll also be a retrospective of Marvel Cinematic Universe films screening in the Gallery’s Australian Cinémathèque, so check out the program on the website.
Nice to know - An Up Late series will accompany the exhibition on Fridays from 28 July – 1 September, including music, talks and more. The exhibition will also be open late until 9pm on Wednesday evenings.
