Mitchelton To Alderley

Walk Or Cycle

This path of approx 8km return has a surprisingly rural feel, twisting along Kedron Brook via old farmlands with remnant machinery and sculptures and historical plaques to an early farming family who lived in the area, and bypassing a bat colony before ending at Grinstead Park playground and picnic area.

*Those taking the walk with 4-legged friends, not far from the start in Blackwood St Mitchelton is Ion Cafe & Bar which has a breezy covered deck or dog-friendly Blackwood Espresso, perfect for a pre or post walk refreshment stop.

1. Whether arriving by train or car head straight down Osborne Rd, past Brookside Shopping Centre until Teralba Park on the right. Turn in here where there is plenty of car parking and pick up the path down by the creek below the soccer club.

2. Follow the creek along the parklands and under Burwood Rd bridge, coming up for air briefly before splitting off down hill to the right rather than following the road. Before long the path again offers a split to pass over the creek – ignore this and power on ahead up to where the path briefly rejoins Burwood Rd before plunging into lush fields studded with trees.

3. This is one of the most scenic parts of the ride/walk with fields of cows and ruins of feed sheds and sculptures incorporating the old farm machinery. From here the path runs under South Pine Rd and along deeper and more densely forested creek banks until running into the back of Sparkes Hill and crossing a bridge. It is here on the left that a bat colony has made its home. From here it’s only a couple of hundred metres across a reserve to Shand St and across the road to Grinstead Park.

Seekers of further adventure can continue through and beyond Grinstead Park, on-road briefly at Royal Parade and then indefinitely via Grange Forest Park to Wooloowin, Nundah and eventually end up at the Boondall Wetlands.
