TAPAS TREE AT STUMPS HOTEL HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED
A tapas bar with a sunset view can be found out back of the beautifully preserved 1861 built Settlers Inn, now the Stumps Hotel. Take a seat on the covered terrace and partake in a range of delicious morsels such as mojito oyster shooters, salt and pepper squid with watermelon, fetta, dukkah and salsa verde, Ras el hanout chicken wings with blue cheese, potato chips and baby peas or keep it simple with a rustic house pizza. For afters the house specialty is the chef's own gelati but there's nothing traditional about the flavours – think white chocolate and Chambord, sea salted caramel or redskin and tequila.
The tapas bar is but one section of the greater Stumps Hotel, which is full of nooks and crannies. Out front overlooking the street is the Twine Bar, a craft beer and boutique wine bar, next to the terrace a cosy high-ceilinged dining room and both here and on the terrace traditional pub grub such as fish'n'chips, steak and salad can be had. On weekends breakfast is served from 8am and there's also a small children's menu. And, for a bit of a retreat, to one side of the original polished timber floored entry hall is a tiny drinks lounge with original sash windows, plasterwork, Chesterfield couches and shelves of books and collectables.
