A cheery ‘Salaam!’ echoes throughout as Afghani customers come and go from this spotless little store, nestled beside Govinda’s in a nondescript shopping square off Cleveland Road.
Inside the aromatic range of Persian, Afghani and subcontinent products include dried shallots, lemon powder, fig jam, pomegranate, zucchini and eggplant pastes, khak shir, dried lemons, ginger and rose petals, burghal, Persian fairy floss and natural yoghurt drinks (ayran).
Also to be found is cooking equipment such as steamers, tawa pans (for chapatti) and serious metal kebab skewers of a metre in length. Highly recommended are the to-die-for almond and pistachio sweets in decorative metal boxes.
