The owner of the city's best little ramen bar, Taro, went on a noodle soup odyssey through all regions of his native Japan before embarking on his own venture and Brisbane city diners are the beneficiaries.

In what is essentially an outdoor space under the Boeing building Taro has enclosed it with plastic and plants to make a cosy dining room in winter and a cool breezy patio in summer, with bonus Story Bridge views.

But to the delectable ramen – served in rustic earthenware bowls it derives from the various regions and comes in tonkatsu (red or fire), shoyu, shio, miso, tsukemen (cold noodles in hot dipping soup) and vegetarian varieties. Taro uses only the best quality ingredients, such as Bangalow sweet pork and organic nori imported from Japan.

But it's not just fantastic ramen that is on the menu here – gyoza, pork salad, chicken karaage, Japanese curry rice, croquettes, and sweet pork shabu shabu hot pot (dinner) are also available.

Service is counter and side dishes and accompaniments self serve from the corner. Meanwhile the selection of Japanese beers and sake or shochu go down a treat with the ramen and house wine is available by the glass.
