In a small shopping square opposite Sherwood State School, Gopal's is a pocket-sized no frills eatery that serves up what would have to be the most delicious cheap (albeit vegetarian) food around.
Although their menu has an Indian flavour – think curries, samosas, koftas, rice and lassi – they also do a great soy lasagne, Malaysian noodles, potato bake and spinach pie, with mango lassi or ginger, lemon and mint drink to accompany. And on Saturdays at lunch traditional dosa (rice crepe) is available with sambar & chutney, plain or masala.
Nip in for some takeaway or take a seat on the terrace for their bargain $12 special – a main of curry, rice, kofta, chutney, pappadum and garden salad, dessert of Halava (semolina fruit pudding) and a lassi or house drink. Otherwise all regular size curries & rice are $6.50 and large $8.50.
