It's rare that an establishment can cater for customers aged 0 to 100 without compromising quality but Due East is not just a rare exception but one that raises the bar for family friendly dining. Featuring a log fire lounge bar, stylish contemporary stone and wood décor, a fenced children's playground and with the ability to drop in for everything from coffee and cake or wrap and milkshake to rare aged steak and glass of red or champagne and oysters, every thought has been put into this restaurant bar and it shows.

The good value menu ranges from light options such as the 'Fast & Fresh' – wraps, quiches or salad for under $10 and tapas – to pub style meals which run the gamut from fish and chips, steak sandwich and pizzas up to aged rib eye on the bone. (although it must be said that there's nothing ordinary about the delicious chef-prepared food).

Children have their own menu which covers staple faves such as fish and chips, pasta, and grilled ham and cheese soldiers and all come with ice-cream and jelly worms. Otherwise there's a child's snack combo menu of babycino, milkshake or juice with cookie, fruit or yoghurt.

Coffee here is well-brewed Campos and breakfast is served in weekends. And on Friday nights its oyster and champagne time and Sundays sangria and tapas, both which come with a side of live music.

Need to know: All ordering is at the counter, the playground is for children up to 11 and is on the terrace adjacent, in full view of the dining area. Also there's plenty of space between tables for prams with this making a great place for mother's group gatherings.
