This gem of a homey lounge bar is Highgate Hill's go-to café for southside foodies and coffee nuts by day until, at week's end it morphs into a groovy little bar/bistro at sundown.

It may be a bit of a hike up the winding road from the West End action but well worth it for the small but perfectly formed menu of stand out food, heavenly Five Senses coffee, cool classic cocktail list and a spot under the hanging plants to moor the dog out front while enjoying a morning espresso or evening tipple.

Breakfast plate

All day breakfast options include baked eggs with chilli con carne, corn fritters with avo, tomato, lime salsa bacon and sour cream or leg off the bone with soft-boiled eggs while the lunch star would have to be spiced lentils with pan-fried sheep cheese, lemon yoghurt and sour dough. There's also a daily sandwich board with fillings such as egg and dill mayo with rocket or chilli lime tuna and sweet treats like Guinness chocolate cake. Meanwhile dinner is a simple but delicious affair that is regional and seasonal based – think lamb backstrap, char sui pork and vegetarian burritos.

From Thurs to Sunday happy hour runs from 5-7 when all beers, wine (an all Australian list), cider and spirits are $5.
