This roastery, the brainchild of Phillip di Bella, burst onto the scene in 2002 and has had coffee lovers abuzz ever since. Phillip, a larger than life philanthropic character revered by the staff and featuring on the TV screen by the lounges, happens to be the son-in-law of the original owners of the Cosmopolitan Café, which contained Brisbane’s first roastery and opened in Fortitude Valley in 1975.
Drop in to the café to try the blend of the week, which is complimentary if you buy some beans. A small range of snacks such as croissants, toast, tarts and muffins are available if you want to linger on the lounges or the communal table. The atmosphere is kept lively by the keen black clad staff who buzz around offering coffee menus, tours of the roastery, tips on coffee making and so forth.
If time is precious and/or you have no interest in your coffee bean’s kindergarten years you can take advantage of the adjacent di Bella drive in and collect your beans and coffee on the run.
