From the ordinary grocery store façade of Groceries @ Pinkeys there's no sign that this food store is home to a tea and coffee parlour. But step inside and be met with a coffee stand and behind it the Book Nook – a quaint library style room of antique furniture, potted plants, silver tea sets and a wall of mock book shelf wallpaper.
Here shoppers can retreat from the world or combine a spot of grocery shopping with a read of the newspaper and cup of silver service tea or Merlo coffee. There's also a stand of books for those who want to settle in to one of the antique chairs (those with the rounded backs are from the old Rowes Arcade café).
To accompany take your pick from anything in the grocery store, from the sandwiches and rolls behind the deli counter to the divine sweet treats including their amazing signature brownies, made from a secret London recipe.
On starting soon on Sundays owner Gail (who a few years ago bought the 40 year old store from the original owners the Pinkey family), has a book swap meet on the cards.
