Inside the gutted shell of an old hardware store is this charming vintage emporium and café lounge where everything bar the kitchen sink is for sale and Shirley Bassey and Brazil 66 rule the airwaves.

And that's far from all - the bulky retro TV in the corner doubles as a Sega Megadrive game console, the coffee is from heaven, the food – think vege stacks, savoury mince on organic sour dough, nachos, mango, pineapple and coconut smoothies, and Russian staple Pasha for afters – is more-ish and on designated evenings once a fortnight indie musos keep the BYO troops entertained.

So, be it settling in with a 1960s mag, a coffee and a chinwag, a table game and a mezze plate with friends, a browse through the racks of yesteryear clothing or the latest video game played from a row of old theatre seats, VK & VC is the place.

A parental bonus is that there is loads of space for children and prams and Tonka toys don't break.
