Amongst a wasteland of light industry in the far reaches of Hamilton sits an unlikely pocket of manicured riverside bliss consisting of this copper-backed glass-fronted café with rolling lawns, a small crescent of sandy beach, history-inscribed sandstone paving and river themed sculptures.
Built in readiness for the residential planned development of this area, currently it is the haunt of locals-in-the-know but it is well worth negotiating the pot-holed streets that thread their way from Portside to here.
Everything from the coffee to the breakfasts (try the croquet monsieur or the scrambled eggs with asparagus and sand crab) to the lunches which range from rib fillet steak sandwich to local kawali prawns with Asian salad and jasmine rice are beautifully executed to a standard befitting a restaurant rather than a café. Then so are the prices but considering the quality and location they are justified.
There is also a decent kid's lunch menu averaging $10 and racks outside for tethering dogs and bicycles to.
