In an inland bay area of country lanes, paddocks of horses and donkeys and long tree-lined drives is a little modern shopping centre with this modern gem of a cake and coffee lounge.
While the goods have a home-baked flavour there is a sophistication that is unexpected in this quiet outpost. The special occasion cakes in the window are works of art and inside the long cavernous space is sparsely decked out with wall benching and artworks.
But it is the sweet stuff that is the drawcard – delicate apple and sultana crumble, luscious moist slices of caramel latte mudcake, passionfruit mousse slice and decorative little Black Forest cupcakes.
The savoury dishes on offer are no less lush, with delicious home baked lasagne with fresh side salad or gourmet sausage rolls and quiches.
Meantime breakfast here is a continental affair, where all day items include chunky fruit and nut toast, chocolate toast (melted choc between 2 thick slices), cinnamon toast fingers and golden waffles, all in the $5 to $9.50 price range.
Children are catered for too with the smiley face pancake or scoops of ice-cream and a free Babycino with any food.
Coffee is Grinders and not their strong point but they have a decent range of loose leaf teas including Breakfast standards as well as a crop of exotic teas – china green gunpowder, vanilla and arctic fire not to mention milkshakes with non-run-of-the-mill flavours such as tutti frutti, lamington, hazelnut and cherry delight.
