Showing its age in more ways than one, the Cosmo - which opened for business in the 1970’s - was Brisbane’s first roastery, long before the locals cottoned on to the fact that coffee comes from a bean not in powder form.

Times have marched on ahead, with roasteries becoming as ubiquitous as well, cafes, but the Cosmo sticks steadfastly with its décor and its reputation for good solid food and coffee.

Amongst the jungle of coffee shops fronting the Brunswick St Mall this one is not just an institution but one of the best drop-ins for a hearty breakfast and heart-starting coffee. The original family owners may have moved on but their legacy remains.
