Holed away upstairs in the heritage antique precinct this mellow candle and lamplit wood-panelled den with its intimate nooks is a bar-come-true for those seeking atmosphere, conversation and a short sharp drinks list.
In keeping with the understated vintage chic of The Crosstown Eating House downstairs, the owners have carried the theme through only upstairs it’s about the 1950’s and the dawn of the Don Draper era.
The cocktail list borrows from the pre-prohibition past and the present, with signatures being the Mint Julep, the gin-and absinthe-infused Corpse-Reviver, the tequila based Watermelon and Basil Smash and the vodka based Orange Whip with a touch of chilli. A smattering of microbrew beers, Australian and Mediterranean wines and champagne and bar snacks such as gin-soaked olives complete the quality offerings.
On Sundays the music switches from low volume stereo to live performance.
