This elegant old world champagne bar can be found tucked away upstairs in the heritage-listed Cook Terraces overlooking the river and Coronation Drive. From there it provides an exclusive and quietly sophisticated retreat with stunning views, a top shelf champagne and wine list and bar /menu that is a real treat, coming from the kitchen of the fabulous Milton Reserve restaurant downstairs.
Entry is via the front porch and once inside the hallway, take the narrow wooden staircase upstairs to the central high-ceilinged room containing the bar, which is steeped in original features - archways, chandelier and marble fireplace.
Take a seat in here or on the wraparound balcony which has been closed in at the front to make an intimate candlelit nook with the best views in the house. On the divine bar menu the smattering of delicious nibbles such as Coffin Bay oysters, Gougere (French cheese puffs), chilli salt squid with fresh lime, marinated olives or a small top notch cheese selection.
Champagnes, which change regularly, hail from the well-known to the boutique and wine – a mix of boutique and rare – are all sourced by the o-owner and sommelier. Otherwise there's an extensive selection of beers that is half imported, half Oz and a small but delicious range of cocktails.
