Height Of High Tea
Treasury Heritage Hotel
Experience the Height of High Tea with a backdrop of old world grandeur in the splendid surrounds of Brisbane’s Treasury Heritage Hotel.
On weekends the elegant dining room of Lab Bar + Restaurant, with its soaring ornate ceilings and ornate wood-panelled bar is the setting for a scrumptious three tier high tea served at white clothed tables on fine bone china. Here’s the place to sip from cups of French La Maison Du The tea (with the added option of flutes of bubbly) and sup on delicate ribbon sandwiches, scones and scrumptious sweet and savoury pastries whilst classic jazz and tunes from the likes of Ella, Frank and Astrid Gilberto play in the background.
Executive chef Steven Jones brings his skills gained at 5 star London establishments to create the quintessential high tea: a top tier contains fluffy fresh baked scones and miniature quiches and frittatas while the middle tier holds the freshest of ribbon sandwiches with fillings of smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese, roast beef, tomato and cheese and chicken and mayo. The piece de resistance is the bottom layer with a selection of exquisite (premise-baked) pastries including macarons, tiny lemon meringue and fruit tarts, cheesecake and choux pastry swans.
To accompany, diners can chose from English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Peppermint, Camomile, Green or Lemon and Ginger handcrafted French teas, which come in bottomless teapots and opt for a glass of sparkling wine (Brown Brothers Prosecco NV or Chandon NV Sparking Brut) or Moet and Chandon Brut Imperial NV champagne).
Nice to know - On a historic note, the Treasury Heritage Hotel (ex-Land Administration Building) couldn’t be a more fitting place to indulge in high tea, as the legend behind the origin of high tea credits the Duchess of Bedford, one of Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting, as its creator. It is outside the Treasury Heritage Hotel that a statue of Queen Victoria stands sentry over the city’s historic Queens Gardens, which was named in honour of Her Royal Highness and unveiled here in 1906.
Need to know – If you’re looking for the ultimate old world high tea in Brisbane, whether for an intimate tete a tete or a special occasion gathering, the Treasury Heritage Hotel fits the bill. *Bookings are taken on Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm, with last booking at 3.30pm.
