The Dutch Shop

Acacia Ridge

THE DUTCH SHOP IN ACACIA RIDGE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Despite its location in unremarkable Acacia Ridge Plaza, this is a charming (in a lace curtain/ porcelain figurine way) shop/deli/café stocking all things Dutch and Indonesian, the only one in Queensland to do so exclusively.

Once it was a lifeline for Dutch post war immigrants however their offspring have grown up and moved on from Breakfast Cake and chocolate sprinkles. Yet for any child Dutch cuisine is a bit of a fantasy come true with its range of almond and ginger biscuits, fruit cakes and the ubiquitous chocolate to drink and sprinkle on whatever you please at any time of day.

The small deli counter is a temple to smoked meats such as rookworst and beef, traditional cheeses of gouda, edam and maasdam as well as smoked mackerel.

Those who travel from afar can refuel with apple cake and Dutch coffee/chocolate or a smoked herring or liverwurst sandwich at the lace table cloth covered wooden table and chairs whilst admiring the windmill and clog displays.

Those who can’t make the journey can still order their broodke, kokoa, apple sauce, gingerbread, curry ketchup and nasi goreng mixes over the phone.
