Namaste Indian Spice and Chaat is a tiny hidden gem of a grocery store and Indian street food eatery in a blink-and-you-miss it shopping strip along busy Vulture St in Woolloongabba.

While Namaste might not look like much from the outside, it has a secret little verandah annexed to one side of the store, where customers can sit and tuck into in some of the best value and most authentic Indian street food to be found anywhere in Brisbane.

Indeed sitting out under the corrugated perspex pergola roof and tucking into a generous plate of freshly made Masala Dosa or delicious bowl of Pav Bhaji (both priced at well under $10) it feels like you’ve stumbled across a tiny slice of India that somehow got beamed up into the Gabba.

Also on the menu are traditional foods that are hard to come by in Brisbane: a variety of Puri (Pani, Sev or Dahi), Bhel, Uttapam, Chole Bature, Samosa or Papari Chaat while Dosas come plain or Masala. And on weekends the menu expands to include Fafda, Jalebi, Khaman, Khandvi, Patra and Ganthiya.

Curry and bread

As well as the eatery, the little grocery store is a great source of products from the sub-continent – rice, cooking oil, ghee, frozen vegetables, sweets. Pulses, atta and flour, frozen naan, roti and paratha and frozen treats like Tutti Frutti Kufti and frozen coconut chutney).

Need to know – Despite its busy traffic location, there’s plenty of free off-street parking out front of the store.
