Peel St Kitchen
South Brisbane
Peel St Kitchen has metamorphosed into Peel Street Grill and Cellar in 2015 and is awaiting new review.
South Brisbane’s hottest foodie destination, Peel St Kitchen is a funky tropical themed restaurant and cocktail bar whose signature is fine dining at café prices and home made fusion cocktails with quirky titles. And while it may be a bit off the beaten track it’s a detour well worth taking.
Owners and partners Angelo and Angela are both chefs who started their careers in Brisbane and went on to hone their skills with eponymous UK and European chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing and Richard Conroy. At Peel St Kitchen their first independent venture, the eclectic menu draws its influences from Angelo’s Filipino and Angela’s Polynesian backgrounds.
Gourmet pizzas come with toppings like la Fiesta – pulled pork marinated with ‘Peel St spices’, bacon, onion, capsicum, Tabasco sauce and sour cream – and seriously delicious starters include Hervey Bay scallops braised with organic quinoa, adobo chicken wings and dill.
Dessert wise, for those who can’t decide between temptations like egg custard with caramel topping, passionfruit and lime parfait or sticky rice pudding (white chocolate laced with roasted pineapple and caramelized milk ice-cream) there’s a tasting platter incorporating all.
Breakfast is also available daily and ranges from light and healthy like housemade banana bread, ricotta hotcakes or avo on toasted sourdough to the Peel St Breakfast, with the works, designed to share.
If you can tear yourself away from the food, Peel St Kitchen is also a bar with low slung bamboo framed chairs, cocktails made from scratch and called Mail Order Bride and Lady Boy’s Adams Apple and bar food like popcorn prawns and sweet soy glazed chicken wings. Beers range from draught to local, international to craft and wines hail from OZ and Europe.
Need to know: children are most welcome and there's a small kids menu selection available.
