While other restaurants have come and gone in the Euro style Emporium complex Mecca Bah lives on, buoyed by its formula of tasty food, reasonable prices and a large al fresco dining space with ceiling fans that perfectly complements Brisbane’s climate.
Possibly another point of success is its no bookings policy, which means that determined diners ensure that they arrive for the early session as well as ensuring a constant flow of diners from the nearby Emporium Hotel. Yet it is this strength that can also strike a bit of a sour note for diners when they arrive, only to be corralled behind an airport style barrier system or offered a wait in a ‘bar’ which is the approximate size of a kiddies corner.
Patience is rewarded however with friendly service and generous serves of well executed non oily food that takes its influence from Nth Africa and Turkey. Served up on ceramic Tunisian crockery are delicious tagines, crispy Turkish pizzas or chargrilled kebabs (all in the $20- $26 range) along with sides of fresh plentiful salads such as fattoush or Mid Eastern coleslaw
