Rogue Bar + Bistro

Rogue Bar Bistro is a spiffy little beacon of top quality wining and dining in a line-up of warehouses and factories in Newstead's commercial estate.

Inside the usual gritty spaces have been shunned for a sleek contemporary black and white interior involving the odd pot plant and community table, black lounges along the rear wall, down lighting and an open kitchen and bar that doubles as an espresso counter. Outside a side laneway and front lawn (once covered) catch the al fresco drinking and dining crowd.

Like the décor the food is striking yet simple, with a menu that carries through from morning to late night and that is well worth a trip from wherever to sample its deliciousness.

Start the weekdays with something light, from toast, freshly baked muffins, croissants and avocado salsa on toast, with weekends branching into the heavier equally delicious stuff like omelettes, beignets and mince pots accompanied by a cup of locally roasted Blue Sky Coffee or Madame Flavour tea.

After breakfast ends at 11.30, the share plates kick in and carry through to the evening, featuring stand-outs such as dainty crumbed chicken croquettes, seared scallops on corn salsa and melt-in-the-mouth salt and pepper squid.

Lunch which is served until 3, features dishes such as wagyu beef burger and spaghettini with chilli crab, tomato, herbs and capers while dinner is a step up to dishes like rib fillet with forest mushrooms or spatchcock and caramelized onion tart, with sweets like Banoffee pie to finish.

Meanwhile the drinks list too is about quality not quantity with a carefully chosen selection of red or white wine varietals, sparkling wine from France and Oz and standard or premium spirits.

Need to know: while parking can be a headache of the migraine variety during office hours it's a free for all by night and on the weekend.
