SAIKO TEPPANYAKI IN FORTITUDE VALLEY HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Saiko Teppanyaki brings the succulent tastes and lively theatrical experience of teppanyaki to the Emporium, Fortitude Valley.

Nestled in the garden-fringed oasis that is home to Mecca Bah and Guzman Y Gomez, Saiko Teppanyaki is a welcome addition to Brisbane’s teppanyaki scene and one that is also a great dining destination for families.

For those in the un-know, Teppanyaki is a 70 year old dining craze that started with a Japanese restaurant chain that began cooking Western-style food on a Japanese teppan in 1945 and today most teppanyaki restaurants offer a blend of West and Japanese-inspired dishes.

Everything served here is perfect to share and most of it cooked on the iron griddle in front of patrons, with scenes of flaming onion volcanos, flying eggs and spinning knives keeping things on edge.

For Starters diners can choose from Tempura (prawn, seafood, calamari or vegetable), Salad (chicken, steak, prawn, octopus or tuna), Deep Fried delicacies like oysters, crab claw or karaage chicken, melt-in-the-mouth Sashimi, Teppanyaki Fried Rice (a highlight of the theatrical antics where diners get to catch egg in their mouth) and Saiko Skewers and grills.

For lunch, Saiko Tappanyaki offers a great range of Lunch Sets, all of which come served with vegetables, salad, miso soup and steamed rice (upgrade to fried for a small charge). As well as the Yaki Udon Set and a Vegetarian option, there’s Seafood (prawn, snapper, octopus and calamari), Meat (cgicken, lamb loin, fillet or sirloin steak) and the ultimate: Saiko-Delic Sirloin which comes with a choice of snapper, octopus, prawns, calamari or chicken.

As per lunch, Dinner is served with the same accompaniments and along with the daytime Meat, Seafood, Yaki Udon and Vegetarian choices, there’s Wagyu Beef, Tuna, Salmon, Scallops, Moreton Bay Bugs and Lobster to savour.

Also highly recommended are the Banquets – Super Saiko for One (a combo of meats and seafood) or Two. The latter ranges from Chef’s Choice (fillet steak, prawn and chicken) through to the ultimate indulgence – Lobster, Moreton Bay bug, prawn, salmon, tuna, calamari, octopus and scallop.

Saiko Teppanyaki also does a short but delicious range of desserts – think Chocolate Dipping Pot with fresh banana and strawberries or the traditional Daifuku (mango, green tea or tiramisu) with ice-cream.

Saiko is fully licensed, with carefully considered beer and wine list incorporating both Japanese and Australian craft beers, boutique wines, cider and spirits as well as hot and cold rice wine and sake.

On the cocktail front there’s Japanese Slipper, Lychee Martini, Coconut White Russian, Banana Daiquiri and Mojito amongst the offerings, Shooters, Mocktails or, for the adventurous, Saiko Bomb Shots to knock the socks off.

Otherwise there’s ice tea (lemon, peach, green or lychee), juice, soft drink, ramune, sparkling or mineral water and green or jasmine (hot) tea.

Need to know – Saiko Teppanyaki is super child-friendly, with a special child’s menu for the under 12s (Yakitori, steamed rice, salad and spring roll or dim sim), trainer chopsticks and designer high chairs so even bubs and toddlers can enjoy front seat of the action.
