Chopan Charcoal
Milton
CHOPAN CHARCOAL HAS CLOSED.
Overlooking busy Milton Road, Chopan Charcoal's exterior gives little clue as to the Afghani food treasure that lies within.
Yet come evening often you'll find Afghanis, some in traditional dress, congregating at this exotic little no-frills BYO restaurant to feast upon the mouth watering delicacies of their ancient cuisine.
Perhaps it is this refinement over thousands of years that gives it such an edge over many others but those with an ounce of culinary curiosity should try it at least once in their life.
For under $20 a dish you can choose from deslicous korma based curries, lightly charcoaled meats, and salads and vegetables prepared with yoghurt based sauces or try the Mantoo (steamed pastries) – meat or vegetable - or Burani Banjan (eggplant in rich tomato sauce).
Then therre are the Afghani house specialties - Karahi (BBQ meat, seafood or veges) served with Lebanese bread, with the perfect accompaniment Afghani tea.
Nice to know - The basic-except-for-the-gathered-suede-seat-covers-interior of the restaurant seats roughly thirty and there is also the option of dining, traditionally on the in-house day bed.
