DA BURGER HAS CLOSED IN NEW FARM.

For burgers that combine the best of old-fashioned and new it’s hard to go past DA Burger, New Farm Village’s feelgood  gourmet burger bar.

DA Burger combines the best of classic old style burgers and recipes with ingredients as fresh as they come, and serves them with a craft beer or boutique wine till late at night.

Owner James D’Ath (along with co-owners Wendy Mason and Jason Poon) has been secretly honing his burger craft behind closed doors for years and now the public can get to sample burgers that are simply delicious like DA'Burger Up in Smoke (smokey Black Angus beef, cheddar cheese, sweet potato, mayo and DA Burger’s signature tomato relish), Sunday Roast (Aussie lamb tenderloin pattie, cheese, jalapenos, lettuce, onion, mayo and tomato relish), as well as chicken (free range), vege and fish varieties with some of the best beer battered chips around.

Along the unique flavour combos, the key to what makes DA Burger special is that James meticulously sources every ingredient that goes into the burgers, popping next door to boutique butcher Rayner’s Gourmet Meats to select the best grass fed MSA Angus Beef or Murray Valley lamb for the patties (none of which ever see the inside of a freezer), and getting the tomato relish, which is based on his step-mother Chrissie’s secret 100 year old family recipe made by a trusted local couple. Even the spice rubs which give burgers such as the Nelson Nasty their original subtle flavour are made from scratch to James's own recipe.

James also commissions artisan Morningside bakery Creative Crusts to make the daily bread rolls in the old-fashioned easy to hold flat burger style while veges hail from an award-winning produce supplier. And at Rocklea Markets each week he and business partner Jason can be spotted foraging for the best fresh produce such as the special oak leaf lettuce that they source from Corras Farm near Lowood.

The same attention to detail bestowed on the burgers makes its way into the drinks list too with a selection of more than 20 award-wining craft beers (Hef, Duke & My Wife’s Bitter) that sit alongside Corona and Coopers (the last Oz family owned major beer company) , boutique wines by the glass or bottle and local Noah’s juices.

Need to know: Not just big on taste, but with a big heart, Da Burger runs a suspended burger system where customers can buy a voucher that will be used to provide a burger to local homeless youth so they get a decent nutritious meal.

Nice to know: In the highly likely event that you get hooked on the DA Burger tomato relish, there are jars of it on sale to take home. And another secret to the cult-following behind Da Burger is that these burgers are not just flipped by any old burger cook, franchise style, but by chefs who've rubbed shoulders with Michelin-starred Alain Ducasse and cooked for prime ministers.
