Statler And Waldorf
Paddington
STATLER & WALDORF HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Statler and Waldorf may be named after the Muppet Show’s grumpy old men but you won’t find any cranky customers at this character filled gastro pub on Caxton St.
Brisbane’s inner west has a quintessential neighbourhood pub in Paddington’s Statler and Waldorf, where you’ll find traditional bar food with a seasonal twist, beer on tap, mixed drinks and classic cocktails that are stirred not shaken.
Pull up a seat between the exposed brick walls on British green chairs out front or hang out at a picnic table in the beer garden out back with an earful of Jimmy Hendrix and David Bowie on the stereo.
The philosophy behind Statler and Waldorf is the work of 3 talented guys who have created the kind of bar they would like to hang out in with their friends. No pretence, a touch of heritage (think brick fireplaces with blackened hearths and a dart board) and an old English meets American meets colonial vibe.
While the bar menu may borrow from tradition (Ploughman’s, fish’n’chips, pasta and beer battered chips) expect to find the freshest of food, thanks to a twice weekly sojourn to the Brisbane Fresh Markets at Rocklea, seafood from the source and a special plot of farm that has been set aside in the Sunshine Coast hinterland especially to cater for the foodie needs of Statler & Waldorf. And in the spirit of all things foodie there’s also a vertical vege and herb garden planned for the wall outside the kitchen window.
