Pour Choices is a charming, gastro pub perched on a leafy street in a quiet corner of West End, serving boutique beer, fine wine and an Asian-influenced modern Australian menu.
This West End watering hole is reminiscent of a English country pub with warm wood, white walls, windows and comfy leather lounges, yet has a funky West End vibe with its nautical-inspired mural by local artist Buttons.
There’s a good selection of local and boutique brews on tap from some of Australia’s best micro-breweries like Black Hops, Holgate, 4 Pines, Pirate Life and Modus Operandi, with taps routinely rotated. For non-beer drinkers, there’s a carefully curated, predominantly Australian wine list.
The seasonal menu includes tasty snacks such a fries with kewpie mayo, edamame beans with yuzu dressing and nori salt, Szechuan peppered squid with nahm jim, and bo la lot – grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf with pickled cucumber dressing.
Mouth-watering mains range from slow-cooked pork jowl with fried Asian greens, charcoaled negi rubbed flank with miso emulsion, baby vegetables and jus, braised beef brisket with black rice, vegetables and lemon snow, and fresh white fish with green curry emulsion, coconut and freeze dried lychee.
Do save room for delectable desserts like panna cotta with strawberry dust, rhubarb and fuyu persimmon, and deconstructed cheesecake with chocolate soil and berries. Or enjoy an after-dinner cheese plate with vintage cheddar, gorgonzola and accompaniments.
