GOJO ETHIOPIAN IN INDOOROOPILLY HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Gojo Ethiopian in Indooroopilly is a hole-in-the-wall Ethiopian restaurant and cafe found on the corner of the Eldorado Cinema complex.

The restaurant serves homemade, authentic dishes to patrons, right from the heart of Ethiopia. The food is cooked fresh on site by local Ethiopian women, using only raw and quality ingredients. The expansive and traditional menu is friendly to a range of diners including vegetarians, gluten-free, vegans and more.

The café next door brews traditional Ethiopian coffee, from beans fresh out of the Ethiopian forest. Owner, Tewodros Fekadu (Teddy) will tell you, “You haven’t tasted coffee until you’ve tasted Ethiopian coffee!”

Whilst takeaway is popular, diners can sit on one of the many outdoor tables or palette furniture outside the restaurant and café. It is recommended to dine in and request for the meals to be served the traditional way, which is a share platter that is eaten with your hands, for a truly authentic Ethiopian experience.

The menu is abundant with a range of share plates, appetisers, meat dishes, vegetarian options and sides. The Mixed Combi Plate is an ideal way to try various unique Ethiopian flavors, as you are able to choose up to four items on the menu (from the meat and vegetarian options). This is then served with steamed rice or injera, which is a traditional Ethiopian flat bread. The dish can be enjoyed with a group of people by serving on a large, shared injera for a truly authentic experience and a whole lot of laughs; as it is tradition to feed each other!

The injera is a traditional Ethiopian flat bread that is typically made out of teff flour. Teff has been known for its’ excellent nutrition value; it is great for weight management, it is gluten-free, a great vitamin C, protein, iron and calcium source, it stabilises blood sugars and is easily digestible.

It is also obviously encouraged that you compliment your meal with a traditional Ethiopian coffee from the café.

Need to know – Parking is available out the back of the restaurant. BYO, no corkage cost.

Nice to know – Traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremonies are often held at Gojo Restaurant on special occasions or when the restaurant is full. Owner, Tewodros Fekadu has written his own book named No Man’s Son, which tells the inspiring story of his journey from Ethiopia to Australia.
